My first blog
Reading now Attia’s new book on longevity.
And case study of Max Planck female director who was demoted unfairly ….
And looking at “future home” illustrations on Shutterstock …
And thinking … as a group, we focus so much on finding the failure, shame, blame, guilt. What is wrong. What is terrible.
bad food. bad pharma.
bad sexism. bad racism.
bad housing. bad systems. bad capitalism.
bad …. bad … bad ….
bad people.
And this works. Get angry. Get disgusted. Get scared. Clickbait. More revenue. Rinse and repeat.
What if we flipped all of that. Just turned it on its head. Yes most people are bad. Some of the time. Some people are good. Usually not as much.
So stop worrying about how bad and fucked up and terrible we are. Yes it is there. Stop focusing on it. Turn your attention towards something else. Something better.
Like a dog - rubbing our nose in the little piss spot on the carpet they just did may feel good (to you), may seem like the right thing to do, to show that stupid dog, to make it clear they can’t do that again.
It just doesn’t work.
But if you understand dog brain - and how it works, how they think, how they are programmed - you can raise a great dog. A really fucking great dog.
But you gotta raise him. Give him lessons. Show them how. Reward - and punish - in the right way, at the right time. Over and over, till they get it.
Humans too. Just a bit more complicated sometimes.
First - we need to figure out how our brain works. This starts with emotional intelligence.
And - in parallel, or better even before - get our physical health in order.
We don’t understand our physical metabolism. Not really.
We also don’t understand our emotional metabolism. Not really.
But we are figuring it out. There are people in both areas doing the work Getting closer.
And the tools, the power that we have to achieve this, continues to develop. Rapidly, in some cases exponentially.
What we know already is - get rid of the toxins. And the biggest, easiest toxin - is “sugar”.
High-fructose corn syrup. In soft drinks. In many processed foods. All over the fucking place.
And high-fructose corn syrup - for the soul. These are the short-circuits in our operating system, the hack, to get likes, followers, views, attention. Clickbait.
Attention-grabbing algorithms. Anger. Disgust. Fear. Hate. Sometimes cutesy, cuddly, warm-fuzzy things (cat videos). Just turns out that anger fear disgust hate works a little better, mostly. But the best algorithms will find just the right mix - just for you.
This is just a start. There is little doubt that this path is a mistake. It should be “easy”. But its not. That is why we need tools, techniques, training, practice. Hacks.
Keto diet. Some other diet. Supplement. Better food. Better farms. Better cost accounting (?) of ignored externalities (like environmental impact, health costs, …)
Meditation. Mindfulness. Emotional intelligence training (in kindergarten!!!). Trauma-assisted psychedelic therapy.
Or whatever the latest greatest approach based on the best understandings point us to.
That’s what Quersus is all about ….
